Synopsis

One of the Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton’s story is a great one. He was born out of wedlock in the West Indies, and orphaned by the time he was 11 years old. Alexander Hamilton arrived in New Jersey in 1772 to start grammar school. From there, he played an essential part in the American revolutionary war, working his way up to become an aide to George Washington. But that was only the beginning of the extraordinary man’s story, with the next chapters in his life seeing everything from sex scandals, fatal duels and the formation of the American Constitution.

History and Awards

Hamilton premiered in New York as an Off-Broadway production at the Public Theater in 2015, where it saw universal acclaim and was extended an impressive three times due to public demand. The show lost none of its wow factor in the Broadway transfer, with Ben Brantley of the New York Times saying it was “changing the language of musicals”. President Obama even deemed Hamilton good enough for not one but two visits! In 2016, the production took home the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and clinched 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score – just to name a few! In 2018, it swept up the Olivier Awards, scooping up seven of their record-smashing 11 nominations, including Best New Musical.

“Hamilton lives up to the hype as it is engaging, high-energy and an emotionally thrilling theatrical experience” – Chicago Critic

Hamilton broadway denver

“A show about young rebels grabbing and shaping the future of an unformed country, “Hamilton” is making its own resonant history by changing the language of musicals. And it does so by insisting that the forms of song most frequently heard on pop radio stations in recent years — rap, hip-hop, R&B ballads — have both the narrative force and the emotional interiority to propel a hefty musical about long-dead white men whose solemn faces glower from the green bills in our wallets.”
