The show narrates the coming-of-age story of a young lion cub named Simba, who is fated by birthright to rule as the King of the Pride Lands following his father. The African territory however is no stranger to political machinations, as even in this pure and childlike narrative, disaster comes when Simba's father Mufasa is killed due to the actions of his evil uncle Scar, who harbors a secret hatred for the King of the Pride Lands. The immature prince chooses to escape the Pride Lands and goes into hiding lasting a long period of time. During this exile, he runs into new companions, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. the young prince's easygoing lifestyle then suddenly changes when he once again meets his long-time companion Nala, who encourages him to return to the Pride Lands and requests him to overthrow his abusive uncle.
